Erendida Root CausesThe effects of having a eating disorders are that people would have to go constantly to the physiologist to make sure that they are doing good with their eating disorders. Other are that they would have their body hurt from all their damage they did when they were having their eating disorder. And the other one that is the most important is that they die because the damage they did has so hard that their body could not take any more. Haglund, K. (2014, February 24). This issue is social. Because all this starts in our brain, because social media makes us think that our body is not good and that the only way that our body would be acceptable in society is if our bodies were skinny. The media will always show us the pictures of people that have the “nice skinny bodies.” That’s when we think that we need to have our body like that and that if we don’t society would not accept. That’s when we take the “essay way” and we make that bad choice and we become anorexic or bulimic. Societal beauty standards that promote an unrealistically thin body shape. Our culture would always show us people that have a thin body and they would tell us that a thin body is beauty. The critical lens that I apply is feminist criticism because mostly women are the target in the media. And also women are the ones that are judge when other people know if a woman has eating disorders. Women should not be judge just because they have anorexia or bulimia, because the true is that men also have an eating disorder. Women are mostly always being judge of everything but id the men has the same thing they would not be judge. Mostly I would tell my audience that people have an eating disorders suffer a lot and that they are always in pain. They are always thinking on what they are going to do is the gain weight because they don’t want to be fat. But I would tell them is that if they know someone that has eating disorders to try to help them in any way that they can because they can make a change and save some one’s life |
Karina Root causesThe three root causes of eating disorders are media,self-esteem, and fitting somewhere in society. Media affects adolescents at one point in their lives. It can either affect them in a positive or negative way. In this case it impacts adolescents in a negative way especially since they are little kids. As kids everything they see the brain absorbs as if it was a sponge. Everything they see they want to do and if they don’t do it in that early child stage they end up doing it later in their teen stage. During their Childhood stage all the media they see on tv like movies, models, actresses, soap operas, etc. their subconscious has processed all the images. Self-esteem either affects adolescents in their teen years or starts as kids. As they grow up they begin comparing themselves to other people as in their physical body. Their self-esteem drops down low where they begin falling into not eating at all, or purging because they are not conformed of the body they have. Their the first stage of eating disorders begins, they start to self-loathe themselves Then there's the feeling that they don’t pertain with people at school because they don’t have the ideal bconformitody. They feel insecure of themselves they fall into the deep dark of eating disorders to fit in.
The root causes of eating disorders are social. All three root causes fall into critical lens, Feminist Criticism. Adolescents, girls tend to fall into eating disorders based on the people who surround them and everything that surrounds them. They end up been psychologically oppressed by the media, fear of looking fat, and been unaccepted. The mental thought they have of the ideal feminine body. The feminist lens that the right way to lose weight and get the perfect body is by binging and then purging. They have put their lives at risk, their health as well as mentality. Everyone seeks conformity, acceptance and we think doing and acting different than who we are is going to make people accept us and like us. Adolescent girls have mistaken the way to get the ideal body. Having an eating disorder is no joke. It is very complex to get out of this situation. It isn’t their fault for having an eating disorder. The media, people, and self hate drive them to fall into eating disorders. Some adolescents have Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge-eating disorder. Some starve themselves, some binge and purge, and others overeat until full. You have to open up your eyes and see eating disorders is a Social Justice issue and we have to help people struggling from all this type of eating disorders. You should also be aware of ANA sites there is, short abbreviation for Anorexia. Adolescents with Anorexia seek help from websites. This websites make their condition worse. For example their is blog that says “don’t eat anything white.” That is very absurd! How would you feel if you had any of this eating disorders? How would you feel if no one reached out their hand to help you? How would you feel if they didn’t help you out, but instead reject you and outcast you? |
